Limu sits within Ethiopia's southwestern Oromia growing belt and produces some of the country's most balanced, food-friendly Arabica — wine-like acidity, gentle spice, and a chocolate-forward finish. PyraBrew exports Grade 1 Limu lots that give roasters a versatile, excellent-value base for blends and approachable single origins.
Terroir and Growing Conditions
Limu's growing zone sits at a lower average elevation than Yirgacheffe or Guji, typically 1,400 to 1,900 meters, within Ethiopia's southwestern Oromia coffee belt. The more moderate altitude and consistent rainfall pattern produce cherries with a gentler acid structure than the country's high-altitude origins — the trade-off is a more approachable, food-friendly cup that performs reliably across a wider range of roast profiles and blend applications.
Flavor Profile and Cupping Notes
Limu is known for its distinctive wine-like acidity, balanced with soft spice notes — cardamom and clove are common descriptors — and a chocolate-forward finish with a smooth, rounded body. It lacks the intense floral or fruit-forward character of Yirgacheffe or Guji, which is precisely its strength: Limu delivers consistent, crowd-pleasing balance that works as a standalone single origin or as a dependable base note in espresso and drip blends. PyraBrew's Grade 1 Limu selections score 84 to 88 on the SCA scale.
Processing and Preparation
PyraBrew sources both washed and natural-processed Limu lots. Washed Limu is pulped and fermented within hours of harvest for a cleaner, brighter expression of its characteristic acidity; natural-processed lots are dried whole to add fruit sweetness and body. Cherries are dried on raised beds with careful moisture monitoring to protect consistency across larger commercial-volume lots.
Export Specifications
PyraBrew exports Limu in Grade 1 and Grade 2 classifications, packed in standard 60kg GrainPro-lined jute bags. Limu's higher-volume growing zone supports reliable full-container (19 MT) availability alongside smaller lot sizes, making it a dependable choice for buyers who need consistent supply at competitive pricing across a full harvest season. Pre-shipment samples are dispatched before any contract is confirmed.
